Rio Tinto Procurement is a dynamic and professional procurement organization; set up to meet the needs of Rio Tinto's business units. We source and enter into contractual relationships over a large range of goods and services, specializing in mining-specific categories. We source electronically as much as possible via auction and RFx, and transact using the Quadrem electronic marketplace. Context Rio Tinto Procurement's primary purpose is to deliver value by providing safe, efficient and effective procurement and in-bound supply chain services to the Rio Tinto Group businesses and functional operations. The Primary Purpose of Operations is to focus on end to end supply chain improvements and process co-ordination between three core areas that make up Operations: Source: RTP develops and executes sourcing strategies for goods and services and manages supplier relationships on behalf of, and in consultation with, business unit customers. Overlaid on RTP's service lines is its Service Delivery model, which serves to provide the necessary cohesion to effectively and efficiently deliver RTP's full range of inbound supply chain services in line with Business Unit client needs and expectations. Primary Purpose This role is accountable for generating sustainable value from an assigned category to support operations and service organizations throughout the Rio Tinto Group. This is achieved by employing best business practices, in depth knowledge of various operations within the mining and smelting industries, strategic sourcing processes, relationship management and contract management skills. Accountabilities Responsible for the sourcing, development, implementation and delivery of category strategies for assigned products. Responsible for the development of programs to effectively increase the spend being sourced out of emerging markets. Responsible for establishing and managing positive relations with critical suppliers and developing key relationships with industry groups to the benefit of RTP operations. Responsible for pre-qualifying suppliers with respect to safety, commercial, technical and risk management considerations. Responsible for the undertaking and supporting of negotiations for major purchases. Responsible for contributing to RTP's performance as a safe provider of supply chain services to its customers through proactive engagement and participation in safety initiatives. Provide periodic budgeting information to relevant business units for the categories responsible. Collaborate with business units to implement an effective contract management system and to enhance existing systems as necessary. Collaborate with internal BU customers in operation and maintenance to meet their needs to satisfaction. Liaise with site procurement team to fully implement centralized sourcing and category management strategies. Contribute to a strong governance culture by complying with relevant RTP and business unit governance policies and procedures. May participate in the development of improvement initiatives and projects. May provide coaching and mentoring to less experienced peers, where appropriate. May supervise/manage the work of others. Education/Experience:Bachelors Degree or equivalent education/experience in business, engineering, mining or related discipline is required Minimum 5 years experience in procurement or related area is required MBA is preferred Experience in mining, aluminum smelting, oil and gas, or heavy industry is preferred Knowledge:Knowledge and understanding of procurement and supply chain best practices is required Knowledge of ERP systems is required, SAP is preferred Knowledge of E-Commerce tools is preferred Skills/Abilities/Technical Competencies:Fluency in English is required depending on assigned business unit(s) and/or base work location Fluency in French, Spanish and/or Portuguese is preferred and may be required depending on the assigned business unit(s) and/or base work location Strong written and verbal communication skills Strong analytical and problem solving skills Computer literate and proficiency with common word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and database software Ability to proactively engage, communicate with and influence internal (at all levels within the organization) and external stakeholders Ability to influence others through negotiation Ability to manage multiple priorities in a potentially high stress environment Ability to exemplify and promote a culture of safety, ethics and compliance Ability to work effectively and productively in a matrix organization with minimal supervision Working Conditions Must be available to travel 25-50% of time.
