Technical Writer

Reporting to the Customer Support Manager, the Technical Writer produces software documentation (including knowledgebase articles, user guides, technical customer communications, release notes, case studies, and training materials) for users, system administrators, and software developers. This documentation is published in electronic and print form. The successful candidate will be expected to do research, organize projects, manage assignments, and work comfortably with software developers, product management, quality assurance, product designers, trainers, and support personnel.

Responsibilities

Research, outline, and write documentation for existing software products with above-average clarity, minimal errors, completeness, and overall quality
Develop information content for new products or solutions based on customer needs and goals
Research and develop an understanding of the customer and product requirements
Develop and maintain documentation plans and status reports for assigned projects
Gather information for a writing assignment from a variety of sources, including engineering and product management and gain a strong functional understanding of the source information
Create, maintain and follow a corporate style guide to ensure consistency in writing and adherence to legal guidelines
Review documentation written by other team members to ensure clarity, completeness, accuracy, and overall quality
Qualifications

University degree or college diploma
Technical Writing diploma; or equivalent technical writing experience
Minimum of 4 years experience writing technical documentation, preferably for software applications
Sound knowledge of HTML and XML
Exceptional skills with MS Word and/or Adobe Professional
Fluent in English
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to write in a structured authoring environment and single-sourcing
Additional Assets

Degree in Computer Science or Engineering is a definite asset
Knowledge of computer development environments, operating systems, programming languages
Proficient with one or more of: Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Visio or Wikis
Fluency in one or more of the following languages: French, Spanish, Chinese (Mandarin), German, Arabic or Portuguese
